I Am Shizzle

No, really, I am.

Back in the blogosphere, a look around reveals that Jill Kargman, co-author of The Right Address and Wolves in Chic Clothing (and more) lists If Andy Warhol Had a Girlfriend as one of her favorite books in the Shizzle I Worship section of her website....and over on Jennifer Weiner's blog, Pug Hill is praise-worthy for a piece that almost ran in The San Francisco Examiner  (I'm in the last Q)...

Thanks to both!

(And, yes, the above more than makes up for the charming Barnes&Noble.com reader-reviewer, "Sheila S." who feels her pug could write a better book than I did.  Sheila S.: you're on my list.)

Italian If Andy Warhol!

17The Italian version of If Andy Warhol had a Girlfriend is out!...(or about to be out, it's Italy after all, so hard to be sure)...

The Italian title is beautiful, it's Non Ho Sempre Odiato Le Margherite, which translates to I Didn't Always Hate Daisies

I love foreign editions of my book.  I find all foreign editions to be tremendously exciting.  And because of my great love of all things Italian, the Italian version is my favorite.  (side note:  Did you know that Pace is Italian?  It means peace; perhaps it is why I am so peaceful.)

A fair amount of Andy Warhol was written while I lived in Rome (uh, yes, in that apartment, with that cat) and the scenes when Jane discovers Roma, and Jane and Ian are there together, are among my favorite scenes of the book.  Sigh.

A Daisy By Any Other Name

345335127403lzzzzzzz_3The German edition of If Andy Warhol Had a Girlfriend is now readily available!  And the new title is not If Andy Warhol Had a Fraulein, which I thought really had a ring to it, but rather, Fünfzehn Minuten verliebt.  It's fun to say out loud, and with enthusiasm,

Try it: Fünfzehn Minuten verliebt

Google translator thinks it means Fifteen Minutes Falls In Love, but a reader from Germany wrote and told me it translates as Fifteen Minutes in Love.  Sure.

Embrace the new, interesting cover.   Cause I do. ;)

Funfzehn Minuten Verliebt!

352_35127_rs_57862Looky here: the German cover (and new German title) for If Andy Warhol Had a Girlfriend.

I'd always been partial to If Andy Warhol Had Das Fraulein, but it seems like Andy's German publishers have gone with Fifteen Minutes in Love. (Or possibly Fifteen Minutes Falls in Love, but that doesn't make as much sense.)

Click here for the catalogue page.  I have no idea what it says and the google translation feature, though entertaining, helps remarkably less than you'd ideally want it to.  But I think the cover is very groovy.  It'll be for sale in Germany in June.

If Andy Warhol Had a Girlfriend 101

Well, not exactly, but...I was very excited to hear that my friend Gerard Donovan has included If Andy Warhol Had a Girlfriend on his syllabus for his Intro to Literature class at Suffolk Community College where he is a professor.  Word on the street is that the students "absolutely love it, think it is true to life, and a great read."  Gerard agrees: his favorite scene is Pass the Schnauzer and the Mitch Henderson date.  Gerard and I must be cosmically connected as those are my favorite scenes, too.  And to be praised by Gerard Donovan is pretty cool...his novel, Schopenhauers Telescope, was longlisted for the Booker Prize and won the Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award.

Plans for a reading out on the eastern end of Long Island are in the works.

A Girlfriend in Theory Only

Some more press:  here's an article from last week's New York Daily News featuring the parties the fantastic people at Theory had for If Andy Warhol Had a Girlfriend.

There's an article about me on the front page of The Aspen Times today..

Aspen Daily News

I've arrived safely in Aspen, received a lovely welcome tote bag (my first bag of swag ever) had dinner and book browsing at my favorite bookstore anywhere, Explore (2nd favorite: The Corner Bookstore in Trastevere, Rome), and saw this in The Aspen Daily News:

Alison Pace: Back Again - As Author

Pace's debut novel, "If Andy Warhol Had a Girlfriend," was published this year by the Berkley Publishing Group, a division of Penguin. Bestselling author Pam Houston described the book as "A funny, feel-good fairy tale set improbably in the high-powered international art world." Pace is one of the Aspen Writers' Foundation's "success stories." She was a student of Houston's 2003 advanced fiction workshop at Aspen Summer Words...Her depiction of the art world has been described as "spot-on accurate and hilarious."

Alison Pace will serve on the "Finding New Voices" panel discussion, held Monday,
June 27 at 3:30 p.m. in the Hotel Jerome ballroom.

Also, I'm a fan of The Aspen Daily News' motto:  "If you don't want it printed, don't let it happen."
